Het is onze missie om ons actief in te zetten voor cultuuronderwijs op alle Rotterdamse scholen. Dit doen we door scholen en culturele partijen met elkaar te verbinden. Daarbij begeleiden we ze naar passend en relevant cultuuronderwijs. Langs deze weg kunnen kunst en cultuur een waardevolle rol gaan spelen in het leven van Rotterdamse kinderen en jongeren. Ze kunnen erdoor gestimuleerd worden om steeds opnieuw naar zichzelf en hun omgeving te kijken. Ze kunnen hun creatieve talenten ontdekken en ontwikkelen. En ze leren de vaardigheden waarmee ze zich kunnen bewegen in een dynamische, superdiverse stad als Rotterdam.
Relevant cultuuronderwijs
We zien het als onze taak om scholen enthousiast te maken voor cultuuronderwijs dat relevant is voor hun leerlingen. Dat hen aanspreekt. Dit cultuuronderwijs verdient een stevige plek in het lesprogramma.
Om die stevige plek te creëren zijn nodig: een heldere visie, een op maat gemaakte aanpak, en de artistieke inbreng van (culturele) partners. Wat ook nodig is: leerkrachten die hun vak verstaan, bevlogen kunstvakdocenten, en het besef dat kunst en cultuur het verschil kunnen maken.
Impact
De impact van kunst en cultuur wordt nog groter als cultuuronderwijs niet binnen de muren van de school blijft. Daarom stimuleren we scholen om een koppeling met de vrije tijd van leerlingen te maken. Daartoe verbinden we ze met de juiste buitenschoolse partners en betrekken we ook de ouders erbij. Zo kan de op school aangewakkerde passie buiten de school verder worden ontwikkeld, het liefst dichtbij, in de wijk.
Wijkgericht werken
Met het oog hierop gaan onze consulenten nog meer wijkgericht werken. Dit doen ze samen met andere partijen, zoals de culturele aanbieders op scholen, de Cultuurscouts van Cultuur Concreet (de culturele wijkkaart), Music Matters (talentontwikkeling), welzijnsinstellingen, de coalitie-ondersteuners op Zuid, sportaanbieders en het Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur.
Bridge between education and culture
At the Centre of Expertise for Cultural Education Rotterdam (KCR), our passion is to put as many students as possible in touch with art and culture. We do this so that they can discover the aspects of art and culture that they enjoy and find interesting, but also uncover the skills and talents they themselves have. Our role is that of a bridge between education and culture in the city. We have been doing this independently since 2013 and before that, we were part of the SKVR (Rotterdam Arts Foundation).
Our mission
Our mission is to actively engage in cultural education at all Rotterdam schools. We connect schools and cultural partners and, in doing so, we guide them towards appropriate and relevant cultural education, so that art and culture can play a valuable role in the lives of children and young people in Rotterdam. It can stimulate them to look at themselves and their environment with new eyes, to discover and develop their creative talents, and to learn skills, for mobility and for making change in a dynamic, ultra-diverse city like Rotterdam.
Cultural education relevant to students
We see it as our task to make schools enthusiastic about cultural education that is relevant to their students; that appeals to them. This cultural education deserves an integral place in the curriculum. To create that place there needs to be a clear vision, a tailored approach, and the artistic input of (cultural) partners. Other key ingredients include, educators who understand their subject, passionate art teachers, and the realisation that art and culture can make a difference to young lives. The impact of art and culture will be even greater if cultural education does not stop at the school gates. That is why we encourage schools to make a link between the arts and students’ leisure time. To this end, we connect them with the right extracurricular partners and we also get parents involved. We strive to develop the passion fuelled at school, outside of school hours, preferably close by in their local neighbourhoods.
Neighbourhood-oriented work
With this in mind, our consultants are taking a more neighbourhood-oriented approach to their work. They do this together with other parties, such as the cultural partners at schools, the Cultuurscouts of Cultuur Concreet (the cultural neighbourhood map), Music Matters (talent development), welfare institutions, the coalition supporters in the South, sports providers and the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture.
